Martins Industries manufactures a variety of tire racks and tire display units, including the all-purpose, but as yet little known, passenger & light truck rack (MLTFD). This storage rack is much more versatile than the pallet racking or mezzanines used all too often in tire warehouses. Although passenger & light truck racks require a forklift, they can save a lot of money in employee time and space saved in warehouse reorganization, expansion and modernization projects. This flexible, mobile storage system allows you to reduce tire handling to a minimum. Originally developed for Pirelli, this system has been adapted to hold all types of tires for passenger cars and light trucks. This tire rack has unparalleled versatility and allows large-volume tire storage when the tires are racked in a laced pattern, but can also be used for smaller numbers of tires stored on their treads.

Tire storage on treads

Using this method (photo A), each rack will hold 32-36 tires. The advantages are that each tire is easily accessible and different tire makes, sizes and types can be stored in the same rack.

Tire storage in laced pattern

50 to 55 tires can be stored per rack in a laced pattern (photo B). This has the advantage of storing more tires per square foot (35% more than on treads). It is usually preferable, if not necessary, to store the same type of tires in a rack when laced because access to the bottom of the rack is limited. This type of storage is a highly economical solution for large volumes.

Fold-down tire rack design

The passenger & light truck rack can be folded down to reduce shipping costs and above all save floor space during slow periods. When folded, 80% of the storage space is recovered and the racks can be stacked 20 high, even when folded. Many tire distribution centres and tire warehouses keep a dozen passenger & light truck racks folded and a few open racks on the loading dock to quickly unload incoming tire shipments.

Portable tire rack

The passenger & light truck rack is a portable modular design that offers considerable advantages over tire shelving. Tires can be stored safely up to 27.5 feet high with no need for an expensive mezzanine. The racks are easy to stack and move around with a forklift: 2 at a time when filled with tires and 10 at a time when empty racks are folded down. Moreover, portable modular racks help you quickly and easily rearrange your floor space and save handling time required with the pallet racking (fix racking).

Manufactured with high-strength steel and finished with baked powder coating, our passenger & light truck racks have the construction and finish to ensure a long working life. Some of our customers have been using the same racks for over 20 years.

Removable bars

Four removable bars are stored in the bottom when the tire rack is folded down. The bars are used to create the 2nd tier when the tires are stored on their treads. When they are stored in a laced pattern, only 2 bars are needed to close the top of the cage.

Fold-down system

A set of leg wrappers allows the empty rack to be easily and quickly folded down by a single employee. These sturdy, tested leg wrappers are entirely safe.
